Based on a short story, “The Greatest Gift” by American author Philip Van Doren Stern, this film tells the story of a compassionate businessman, George Bailey, who fails to achieve his own dreams and begins to doubt his worth. With the help of an eccentric angel, George is able to see what life would have been like for his family and community if he had never existed.
It’s a Wonderful Life was nominated for five Academy Awards: Best Picture; Best Actor, James Stewart; Best Director, Frank Capra; Best Sound Recording, John Aalberg; and Best Film Editing, William Hornbeck.
