Lecture format will be a moderated discussion with Kataoka Ichiro. Kataoka Ichiro is one of the top professional benshi in Japan. He was the star pupil of the undisputed master benshi, Sawato Midori. As a benshi, he tours globally and accompanies Japanese silent films by voicing the characters. His visit is sponsored by the Department of Screen Arts and Cultures and the University of Michigan Center for World Performance Studies.
