Based on the thriller of the same name written by novelist Robert Bloch, Psycho follows Marion Crane (Janet Leigh) during her stay at the Bates Motel and learns about its proprietor, Norman Bates (Anthony Perkins), his interest in recreational taxidermy, and his relationship with his mother.
Psycho was nominated for four Academy Awards: Best Director, Alfred Hitchcock; Best Supporting Actress, Janet Leigh; Best Cinematography, Black-and-White, John L. Russell; Best Art Direction-Set Direction, Black-and-White, Joseph Hurley, Robert Clatworthy, and George Milo. It was also nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress, which was won by Janet Leigh. In 1992, the film was selected by the National Film Preservation Board to be added to the United States National Film Registry.
