Join us for a summer concert both epic in scope and hilariously frothy! On July 26, we launch a series of tall tales with “Sing Me a Story” – a free concert to celebrate great literature and epic tales in Broadway and opera.
Soprano Anna Singer, baritone Richard Lewis and pianist Michael Borowitz have whipped together a summer soufflé of scenes by Cole Porter, Mozart, Donizetti and Offenbach, inspired by Greek and Roman legend, Shakespeare and Sir Walter Scott. The tragic Orpheus, the wily servant Figaro, and the demented Bride of Lammermoor are just some of the characters who will sing you their stories. You’ll hear the Faust legend transformed into “Whatever Lola Wants, Lola Gets” and see what happens when the Roman god Jupiter turns himself into a fly. Stir in songs from Porter’s Kiss Me, Kate with backstage theater tales and you have the perfect recipe for an afternoon of entertainment.
Since we want to share our love for great music and literature with others, at this free concert we will accept donations to benefit Fairview Elementary School’s literacy and artful learning programs. So whether you want to embark on an epic journey or give generously to your community, come join us!
This program is supported in part by Solution Tree and the City of Bloomington Arts Commission’s Arts Project Grant Program.
