Expressionism is considered one of the most important forms of modern German art, with major centers in Munich, Berlin, and Dresden. This exhibition, which features forty-eight works from the permanent collection of the IU Art Museum, surveys the artists, subjects, and techniques of Expressionism, while also considering the development of the museum’s rich collection within a broader historical context. How German art dealers, collectors, and artists—exiles from Nazi Germany—impacted the development of the museum’s collection is explored as well. Accompanied by a fully illustrated color catalogue.
