Butedma, Ononchimeg Dorjdagva Gonso, is a Buryat-Mongol artist living in Indiana. She was born in the town of Binder in Khentii province of Mongolia but for over 10 years has lived in rural Owen County.
Grace works in multiple mediums and has explored a variety of styles but shows a preference for working in oils and depictions of her cultural heritage and scenes of rural living. She enjoys capturing familiar local images, barns on Patricksburg & Fishcreek roads, horses, and hay freshly baled in the field. She is married and has 3 children.
Artist’s Satement:
“My project plan is to show and celebrate the beauty and richness of Owen county’s character through the creation of a series of large-scale oil paintings. The paintings include the Falls of McCormick’s Creek State Park, Cataract Covered Bridge, Historic Tivoli Theatre and other important local landmarks and landscapes.
Personally, this project has allowed me to work and gain experience on large canvases and to work on more structural, built objects. I also want to present Owen county in a positive and beautiful light.”
This body of work was made possible by the Individual Advancement Program (IAP) from Indiana Arts Commission. This opportunity provides support to Indiana artists for career development.
