About: Loss can include a myriad of circumstance, such as death, divorce, the loss of a pet or employment; or not so obvious experiences such as financial /physical changes and loss of independence. Losses can also include changes that are not considered to be “negative”; such as changing jobs, moving, etc. Any kind of loss may have an impact on us, and we all experience loss differently, from our own unique perspective. Even if we are grieving the same loss as someone else, (for example a parent or sibling), we each have our own unique relationship to whomever/whatever we’ve lost, and our experience will be our own. As time passes, a way to move through loss may or may not begin to emerge. One seldom realized aspect of loss is that it can open the realm of imagination as we enter into our own unique process of grieving.

This monthly support group is open to anyone (over 18) experiencing loss and is designed to help each of us discover our own unique path towards healing and wholeness. Our facilitator, Rick Clayton, encourages us to approach the grieving process with an optimistic approach and helps us to express ourselves and our thoughts through multiple outlets. Rick’s positive approach incorporates the arts (music, relaxation, visuals, writing, etc) to help express and heal our grief resulting from loss. Poet, R.S. Thomas described this process as “that which arrives at the intellect by way of the heart.”

About the Facilitator:
Rick Clayton, Southern Care Hospice Chaplain (Masters from Christian Theological Seminary) conducts support groups in multiple counties and settings. He provides a safe space for us to share, grow, and move through the many layers of emotion we are confronted with when dealing with loss.
