The Green Prince
A Film Showing at the Indiana University Hillel

Bloomington, IN (January 17, 2017) – On Thursday January 19th at 7:45 PM the Indiana University Hillel will be hosting a showing of THE GREEN PRINCE, an Israeli documentary that tells the story of a Hamas leader’s son who agreed to spy for the Shin Bet (Israel’s security agency).

Based on Mosab Hassan Yousef’s bestselling book, THE GREEN PRINCE SON OF HAMAS, the film exposes a complex world of terror, betrayal, and impossible choices. This is a unique exploration of a profound spiritual transformation and friendship, set against the backdrop of Israeli politics. Winner of the Sundance 2014 Audience Award for Best Documentary, World Cinema.

THE GREEN PRINCE won Best Documentary at the Israeli Film Academy and Moscow International Film Festival award shows. Directed by Nadav Shirman, THE GREEN PRINCE highlights the life of Palestinian Mosab Hassan Yousef, a former Palestinian operative arrested for smuggling guns at the age of 17. Yousef, shocked by Hamas’s ruthless tactics in prison, agrees to spy for Israel.

This film showing is rated PG-13 for thematic material and some disturbing images. The production was filmed in both English and Hebrew. Subtitles will be displayed when necessary.

About Indiana University Hillel: The IU Hillel Foundation was founded on campus in 1938 with the help of the President at the time, Herman B Wells. Since that time, it has grown to be the flagship Hillel in the state of Indiana. Through the generosity of Fred Simon and private donors and in memory of Helene G. Simon, the current home of Indiana Hillel was dedicated in 1993. With the new building, Indiana Hillel has continued to grow and prosper. The success of the program was recognized in May of 1995 when Hillel: The Foundation for Jewish Campus Life officially accredited Indiana Hillel. The program and building now serve over 4,000 Jewish students on the Indiana University Campus.
