Tom Roznowski is originally from New York, but has chosen to be a Hoosier for the past several years. Roznowski is a Storyteller – who not only has put together an Emmy nominated Public Television program (An American Hometown), but a myriad of successful works about life – his and some of the most beloved folks from the past. Tom was a contributor to ‘Wilderness Plots’ an extra special musical narrative of early settlers as they crossed into new territories. Roznowski’s resume is far too extensive to detail in this short description of one of Indiana’s finest talents – come hear him for yourself! Sharing the stage this evening will be the Hostess with the Mostess – one of the originators of the Bloomington Songwriter Showcase- Suzette Weakley. ‘Stella’ as her musical friend call her, has a love of Songwriting that has evolved from her early childhood – listening to her mother, her Uncles & Aunts playing in the first band she ever heard ‘The Originals’. Weakley has been involved with music for years – playing Rock & Roll for many of those years, then turning to the Singer-Songwriter genre when she and Bobbie ‘Jane’ Lancaster formed ‘Stella & Jane’. The two traveled the Country learning how different area venues featured original music and Songwriters – and together with a handful of like-minded writers – put together what is now the Bloomington Songwriter Showcase. Suzette hosts the program nearly every Monday night and books the Showcases. Her musical style is ‘conversational’, often laced with humor and she is comfortable in her Singer-Songwriter skin. Monika Herzig – is a popular professor at Indiana University – teaching Jazz. She runs several workshops where she mentors young talent coaxing them into being in love with Jazz. From Germany, Herzig won a scholarship to study in the U.S. – where she stayed, and ultimately, found her home right here in Bloomington IN. Monika keeps busy performing, teaching and volunteering her knowledge and skill, yet she still finds time to entertain the folks in the Audience at the Bloomington Songwriter Showcase . . . much to our delight! Jason & Ginger – is Jason Fickel and Ginger Curry. Both musicians and both Songwriters – this dynamic duo has lit up every stage in the area . . . as well as some far from their home base of Bloomington IN. Neither of them are native Bloomingtonians – Jason from Kansas, growing up in Colorado, and Ginger from Alabama, growing up in Kentucky. They found Bloomington and ultimately found each other. They are happily married – but not to each other : – ) this is a relationship based on love of music and performing. Jason has had one of his tunes ‘Get Your Car off My Lawn’ featured on PBS ‘Car Talk’, and has a clever, quirky lyrical style. He’s a good musician and is the leader of community radio WFHB’s Firehouse Follies house band – ‘The Rounders’. Ginger (and Suzette – also on this evening’s program) is a member of the ‘WFHB GoZpel GurlZ’ – the power vocal trio who are the ‘house singers’ for the ‘WFHB Firehouse Follies’. THIS looks to be a darn good Showcase and we all hope to see YOU tonight!
