Wake Up! with United Way “On the Rise: Mental Health and Young Adults”

08:00 am to 09:00 am
Virtual Event
https://www.monroeunitedway.org/WakeUp

Join United Way and IU Political and Civic Engagement for a monthly morning speaker series to explore issues that impact our community, friends, and neighbors.

On Thursday, November 12, the topic, “On the Rise: Mental Health and Young Adults” will be explored. The presence of Indiana University, Ivy Tech Community College, and the promise of job opportunities in our community make it a destination for many young adults. Join us virtually on Thursday, November 12 from 8 – 9 a.m. to discuss how mental health is affecting this group of people, with a focus on the students who call our community home. How does stress, anxiety, and depression impact their educations? How is this shaping the next generation of the workforce? What is our community doing to support students and other young adults struggling with these issues?

Explore these questions with a panel moderated by Mark Fraley, associate director of the IU Political and Civic Engagement program, and guest speakers Daisy Anspach, MA, LCSW, Counselor at Indiana University Division of Student Affairs; O’Connell Case, LSCW, Clinical Director of Catholic Charities Bloomington; and Cara Reader, Ph.D., Director of Student Success and Retention at Ivy Tech Community College Bloomington.

Alongside friends, neighbors, nonprofits and community partners, learn more about issues that directly or indirectly affect everyone in our area. Attendees will have the opportunity to deepen their awareness about someone else’s reality while learning about the challenges, innovations, collaborations, resources available through area nonprofits, and how to get more involved in making a difference. Guests are invited to come with questions for the speakers or just listen and learn.

The series will run through December on the second Thursday of each month. In response to COVID-19, discussions will be held virtually over Zoom from 8 a.m. until 9 a.m. until further notice.

This is a free event, but please RSVP before the event via the Eventbrite link found at www.monroeunitedway.org/WakeUp.

Wake Up! with United Way is co-hosted by United Way of Monroe County and Indiana University’s Political and Civic Engagement program, with support from presenting sponsors Greater Bloomington Chamber of Commerce, and Bloomington Board of Realtors.
