Wind Down! with United Way “Democracy 2020: Understanding Voting Rights and Access”

05:00 pm to 06:00 pm
Virtual Event

Join United Way and IU Political and Civic Engagement for Wind Down! with United Way, a special evening edition of the Wake Up! with United Way monthly morning speaker series, to explore issues that impact our community, friends, and neighbors.

On Thursday, October 8, the topic, “Democracy 2020: Understanding Voting Rights and Access” will be explored. The 2020 election is taking place against a backdrop of chaos and confusion. Citizens have growing frustration about the election process and serious concerns about their rights as voters. Join us at 5 p.m. – 6 p.m. on Thursday, October 8 for a special casual hour discussion about voting rights and access in the 2020 election. We’ll be joined by a panel of local experts who can answer your questions and address your concerns.

Guest speakers are Nicole Browne, Monroe County Clerk; Kylie Lewis, student organizer, Big Ten Voting Challenge; and Mary Ann Williams, Voter services co-chair, League of Women Voters.

At Wake Up! with United Way events, learn more about issues that directly or indirectly affect everyone in our area alongside friends, neighbors, nonprofits and community partners. Attendees will have the opportunity to deepen their awareness about someone else’s reality while learning about the challenges, innovations, collaborations, resources available through area nonprofits, and how to get more involved in making a difference. Guests are invited to come with questions for the speakers or just listen and learn.

The series will run through December on the second Thursday of each month. In response to COVID-19, discussions will be held virtually over Zoom from 8 a.m. until 9 a.m. until further notice.

This is a free event, but please RSVP via the Eventbrite link found at www.monroeunitedway.org/WakeUp.

Wake Up! with United Way is co-hosted by United Way of Monroe County and Indiana University’s Political and Civic Engagement program, with support from presenting sponsors Greater Bloomington Chamber of Commerce, and Bloomington Board of Realtors.
