John Summerlot, Doctoral Candidate (Ed.D.), Higher Education and Student Affairs program

IU students, faculty, and alumni were prolific in their military service during the Civil War. They served on both sides and on all fronts. IU’s early work in military science contributed to this, as did the culture of the institution and community. For many years, IU’s Civil War service was a major component of our distinguished history of national service.
